Cornwall is a county of fine buildings, historic monuments, impressive bridges and magnificent minestacks. Defining features of the landscape are the granite quarries with their surrounding banks of stone. The resulting granite from these quarries was shipped all over the world, and many of the skilled stone cutters and associated craftsmen emigrated.
Preserving the Heritage
For several years a number of individuals have felt that the important contribution made by the Cornish granite industry should be recognised in some way The threads of knowledge informally recorded and untapped information held in family stories, letters, newspaper cuttings and photographs need to be drawn together and recorded for future generations.
